Preparation

Flooring

We recommend that you put the kitchen in before you do the flooring. The main reason is risk of damage to your new floor. Often installers work by themselves and they have to drag heavy cabinets across the floor. Plus they have tools that could scratch a freshly laid floor - it makes life difficult.

It can cause issues for the person doing the flooring - it might be easier to leave the toekicks off and fit them after the floor is complete - this will incur extra cost because the installer will have to come back at a later date.

Electrical

Wiring will need to be put in place before installation. The floor plan should be adequate. If your contractor has issues, this information will help them out;

  • Base cabinet height is 870mm - add on the thickness of the bench to get the benchtop height
  • Wiring for underbench oven should be at 600mm from the floor
  • Wall mounted oven @ 1050mm from floor
  • Microwave @ 1500mm from floor
  • Rangehood 2100mm
  • Fridge 1800mm
  • Dishwasher socket needs to be mounted in sink cupboard 300mm from floor

If all else fails contact the showroom.

Plumbing

There are a few common tasks that the plumber needs to do in preparation;

  • Tap supply needs to be moved to underneath the bench (renovating older homes)
  • Waste needs to be moved
  • U bend needs altering to accomodate new sink

We will check if the plumbing interferes with cabinetry - a common issue is that on changing an existing kitchen, the waste is under the dishwasher in a new design. Make sure the plumbing is altered to accomodate the changes - you should discuss this at sign off.

Building Work

Rangehood. Have a think about where the rangehood is going - it needs something solid to be mounted on (fixing). The installer can't just screw it to gib board - it will fall down.

The biggest issue that we face is customers moving jobs because of gib stopping. Please make sure you plan your project carefully - when we put a date in place, we make it happen - so ringing us up the day before is a big issue. Our best lead time is 7 working days - so your job could be delayed by this time if all installers are booked out in advance!

Why not take the stress out of the whole process and enquire about our subcontractor "Roland" and his team who can project manage the whole job for you! -Talk to your rep for details.
