Checking your plans

Do not assume anything - assumption is the mother of all mistakes!

If it's not written down - it won't happen.

Step 1 - Throw away old paperwork!

Keeping old designs and old quotes will only confuse you. Some customers change their minds so often that they forget what design they settled on. Make sure you know what design has been confirmed - so you should only have 1 plan!

Step 2 - Check what has been sent to you.

You will receive 2 items in your confirmation;

Floor plan

Take a look at the floor plan. You will see dimensions in different colours. This is to make it easier to see what the measurements are for. For example, the island unit has a pink dimension of 1480mm. This is how long the bench is. The cabinets are only 1160mm, so there is an overhang of 320mm.

Is there anything special that you need? Has a cupboard been made specially to fit something in it (a gas bottle for example). If this is not written down on the plan, it won't happen. We cannot sign off verbal communication, it has to be written down. Verbal instructions are defined as "design discussion", only a written instruction will make something happen.

Why should I check the plan - doesn't moda take responsibility for everything?

We can only make what you tell us to. Communicating every detail to us can be difficult, sometimes we can misunderstand what you want, this is why we send you a plan - we are saying "is this what you want?". Take the bench dimension of 1480mm in this case. It could be 1580mm - it would still work, but when it arrives in your house you decide that its too big. We can't possibly take responsibility for this. This is what we call an arbitrary  measurement - you decide what it is.

We do take responsibility for what we call defined  measurements. So if we say a wall is 3 metres long and it is 4 metres long, then its our fault.

Confirmation Schedule

Not everything on the plan is included in the sale - it is simply a diagram of where things go. To check what you have actually purchased, you need to check your confirmation schedule - this is your receipt.

Why are there things on the plan if I haven't paid for them?

The plan might not make sense if we don't put some things in. You wouldn't expect us to supply your walls, but they are there! A more subtle thing might be the dishwasher for example - you might be supplying the dishwasher, or you might already have one - but we have to show on the plan where it goes so that the installer knows what he is doing.

FAQ's

I don't know how big a mm is. A mm (millimetre) is 1000th of a meter. There are 25.4mm in an inch. If you don't understand what the dimensions on the plan are telling you, how do you know what you are getting? Our advice is et a friend or family member to help, or contacts us to let us know you are having difficulty.

I have spotted an issue. Get in touch, ask us about it. It might be nothing and we can explain it - or it might be a major issue and we need to change the plan.

My microwave does not fit in the microwave cupboard and I told the rep my microwave was old and big. Was it written down on the plan? If so, then we have made a mistake and we will fix it very quickly. If it wasn't written down on the plan then the instruction did not exist. Our reps discuss thousands of details every week that don't end up in peoples plans. They will probably discuss many colours with you for example, but only 1 will end up on your doors. Don't assume - check the plan.
