There are so many different ‘styles’ of kitchens. Much like fashion, there isnt really one type that is ‘in style’ and generally what you have will be a mix of quite a few different style types.

You need to keep in mind the style of the house, usually this will reflect the kitchen style you chose, although sometimes mixing up the style of the kitchen and the house can be a nice contrast.

If it is a renovation for you, then the most important thing is that it suits you!

Some examples of different ‘styles’:

Modern: This is a term used for something that is quite clean lined and simple. Whether you are working with a large or small budget, this is a very common style of kitchen.

Country: Adding some lattice glass, changing your doors to a tonge and groove finish, hanging a few pots, and adding a butlers sink will automatically turn your kitchen into a country looking style.

Retro: Meaning an aged style, so when you see those lovely bright red smeg fridges, that is retro! Adding an old pattern print behind your glass splash back might be a way to add some retro flare to your kitchen.

Industrial: This is what you may call raw, or Organic, using touches like having an open island with shelves for exposed pots, exposed ducting/ framing, and materials like stainless steel and honed granite, maybe even exposed screws! Suited more for large open spaces.

The great thing about ‘styling’ your kitchen, is you can do this with accessories, or splash backs, and change the look very easily when you get tired of it. So keeping your kitchen design nice and simple means it will keep in style for much longer.
