It is very rare that we do two kitchens the same! The basic layout may be, but we customize our kitchens to suit the space you have.
The first thing when designing your kitchen is to fill the space with cabinetry. We aren’t talking style yet, we are basically constructing the shell of your kitchen.
Things to consider are:
Bench to storage ratio. A design you may have considered may have enough storage for a small city, but nowhere to work! Again, its about balance.
The size of the kitchen, if it is very small, maybe going up to the ceiling isn’t the right thing to do - it will enclose the space and can look very top heavy.
The shape of the kitchen - if it is long and narrow, cleverly positioned tall units or overheads can minimize the appearance, also can create a more open look.
Is open plan the right thing for your family? It can be an expense to create, and will leave you with visible dishes on the bench for years to come if you have a young family now.
Walk through - everyone needs them, the bigger the family, the bigger the walk through! Always be careful about positioning your fridge opposite a return of bench, once that door is open - no one else can get through. Not a problem unless you have teenagers who stand in front of it with that blank look on their face for ten minutes, wondering what they are going to have for their 5th lunch of the day!
We cant change the size of your appliances! It is best not to purchase them before you have spoken to a designer, as although the double door fridge freezer and freestanding 900mm wide gas oven may be something you really need, they do take up a lot of space, and may mean you lose something else to accommodate!
